The program features forty-four electric bikes available through the easybike Rethymno app, allowing usage for up to three hours and access to multiple docking stations throughout the city, promoting sustainable micro-mobility, health, and environmental awareness.

The bike-sharing service provides an accessible, modern option for everyday urban transport. Its main objective is to promote cycling as an alternative, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly mode of transportation. Using bikes significantly reduces emissions, helps decrease traffic congestion, and encourages greener, more sustainable travel. Additionally, it fosters a mindset shift among citizens toward eco-friendly choices and highlights the value of micro-mobility in cities. The Rethymno municipal e-bike system consists of forty-four (44) specially designed e-bikes. Bikes are available for individuals aged 18 and above via the easybike Rethymno app, available for Android and iOS devices:

Registered users can pick up and use an e-bike for a maximum of three (3) hours, as specified in the system’s regulations. After finishing their ride, users must return the bike and lock it at any available docking and charging station. The designated stations include:

  1. Marina Parking (“Delfini” Building)
  2. Tessaron Martyron Parking
  3. Koumpes (Fragaki Plot)
  4. Platanias (Intersection of PEO and Arkadi Provincial Road)
  5. Lycée Ellinidon Square
  6. Perivolia (Intersection of Aris Velouhiotis & Australian Warriors)

How to Use the System

Bike Pickup via App:

  1. Download the easybike Rethymno app and create an account by filling in the required details.
  2. Enable location and Bluetooth on your device.
  3. For the first rental, verify your account:
    • Via AADE / TAXISnet: Select “Account Verification,” enter your personal credentials, and log in. Verification completes automatically.
    • Via Document Upload: Upload clear photos of your passport or ID (front & back). The municipal staff will verify your documents, and once approved, your account is verified.
  4. Go to a docking station and scan the QR code on the bike via the app.
  5. Wait for the system to unlock the bike.
  6. You are ready to ride! Pull the bike out of the docking station.

Bike Return:

  1. Go to a convenient station.
  2. Place the bike in an empty docking slot.
  3. The bike will be automatically recognized and securely locked.
  4. Ensure via the app that the bike is properly registered and locked.
