The Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) Office of the Netherlands organized for the first time a B2B workshop in Rotterdam, focusing on cycling tourism in Greece. This initiative is part of GNTO’s strategy to promote alternative forms of tourism throughout the year, as cycling tourism is a significant driver in efforts to extend the tourism season.

The “Bike Friendly” certification label for cyclist-friendly hotels was also present at the workshop, showcasing all aspects of the emerging cycling tourism sector in the travel industry.
The “Bike Friendly” label is an initiative of the non-profit organization NATTOUR, which promotes the development of alternative forms of tourism, prioritizing cycling tourism. The goal is to create a network of hotels and municipalities-tourist destinations that are friendly to tourist-cyclists, as well as to design strategies to attract tourists who either want to explore areas of Greece using bicycles as their means of transportation or simply use bicycles for short trips during their holidays from the hotel where they are staying.
At the event, Ms. Eleni Skarveli, director of the Greek National Tourism Organization BENELUX, stated, “Our goal was to bring tourism professionals in contact with Dutch tour operators and travel agents. To inform them about cycling tourism products and destinations that are bicycle-friendly, and at the same time expand collaboration opportunities.

The positive response of the Dutch market to the new initiative of the GNTO Office of the Netherlands and the continuously growing interest of the Dutch public in Greece confirm the significant increase in bookings for our country even during the autumn period of 2018,” Ms. Skarveli added.
