On the occasion of World Bicycle Day, Tuesday, June 3, 2025, the Municipality of Rethymno invites residents and visitors to a special cycling tour of the city's monuments.

Meeting point: Delfini Building, Sophocles Venizelos Street 23, at 17:00. The bike tour will start at 17:30 and will last approximately one hour.

This event is organized as part of the collaboration between the Municipality’s Tourism Department and Planning Department, in line with the broader policies for sustainable mobility, the promotion of cultural heritage, and enhancing the visitor experience.

As part of the event, a limited number of electric bikes will be available, with reservations to be made by Monday, June 2, by 12:00 PM at tourism@rethymno.gr.

The event will also include the pilot operation of the new automated shared electric bike system.

Specifically, the Municipality of Rethymno is in the final stages of implementing the new automated shared electric bike system, which is being funded through the National Strategic Reference Framework (ESPA) 2014-2020.

The system includes 44 electric bikes that will soon be available at stations already installed at selected locations around the city. The operation will begin as a pilot project, with the goal of optimizing services and integrating them smoothly into the daily life of both residents and visitors.

After a simple certification process, users will be able to rent a bike for up to three (3) hours daily. The system is designed with ease of access, sustainability, and the promotion of alternative transportation in mind.

With World Bicycle Day and the launch of the pilot operation of the e-bikes, the Municipality of Rethymno is taking another step towards becoming a greener, more accessible, and culturally vibrant city.
