A biodiversity-focused event will take place at Irene Palace Beach Resort in Kolymbia, Rhodes, on Monday, May 5, 2025. The initiative highlights regenerative agriculture and marine ecosystems and forms part of the international campaign Global Action Days.

The event, held at Irene Palace Beach Resort, aims to raise awareness around biodiversity protection within the framework of Global Action Days. It will take place on Monday, May 5, at 18:30, in Kolymbia, and will spotlight two key themes: regenerative agriculture and coastal/marine ecosystems.

Open to the public, the event targets stakeholders across the primary sector, including farmers and producers, hotel suppliers, business owners, hospitality executives, hoteliers, general managers, travel agents, tourism schools, vocational high schools, municipal authorities, departments of tourism and sanitation, local development agencies, vocational training institutions, beekeepers, gastronomy professionals, agronomists, and landscape professionals.

Mr. Nikiforos Steiakakis from SFDO (Sustainable Food Destination Organization) will speak on regenerative agriculture. SFDO collaborates with TUI and the South Aegean Region on the “Rhodes Co-Lab” initiative, which supports the island’s transformation into a sustainable tourism destination.

The topic of coastal biodiversity will be presented by Ms. Vivian Louizidou, a biologist and oceanographer at the Hydrobiological Station of Rhodes. The station plays an active role in educating both students and tourism professionals about marine environmental issues in relation to climate change.

This initiative is part of the Blue Flag program’s environmental activities. The Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) organizes the Global Action Days campaign annually to encourage schools, communities, and organizations to engage in environmentally focused actions, with a strong emphasis on climate protection.

The 2025 edition of Global Action Days focuses on the restoration of ecosystems and the protection of biodiversity. Through hands-on activities, the campaign encourages local communities to better understand their natural surroundings and recognize the collective responsibility in safeguarding and restoring ecosystems.

The event will conclude with an open discussion involving attendees and subject matter experts.
