Heraklion Winery

Heraklion Winery, the winery of the Heraklion Union, was founded the same time with the company, in 1927. It has one of the most modern and largest winemaking facilities in Greece. The winery of Heraklion Union is spread over an area of ​​50 acres, in the center of Heraklion Prefecture, in Paliani. Our goal is to provide the best quality wine on the market, combining tradition with technology and know-how.

Our wines are produced only from Cretan varieties such as Liatiko, Thrapsathiri, Mantilari, Vidiano, Moschato Spinas, Velana, Kotsifali and Malvazia. We would highly recommend trying our single varietal wines from the Domenico range, as well as our two new limited production labels, 4D Thrapsathiri (cask vinification) and Erofili Sparkling. Also, it is important to mention that, our wines are vegan certified.

The winery complements a truly impressive cellar, the pride of the Heraklion Winery, where the treasures of our Earth, namely our wines, are preserved and aged. In our underground spaces, the most mysterious processes take place, such as the aging of wine in oak barrels. For the producers we have installed grape receiving hoppers, state-of-the-art electronic tools and blasters that end up in the stainless steel tanks of our factory. It is here we manage the raw material with knowledge. A perfectly organized facility, friendly and well- studied for every stage of production.

The protection of the environment is of utmost importance to us. For this reason, we work with photovoltaics, we collect and reuse rainwater, the grape skins and seeds are taken by farmers for animal feed, we participate in various European programs and we have set various major goals to make the winery with zero carbon dioxide footprint and eco friendly at all levels. Also, we are particularly happy for the certification as a “Bike Friendly Partner” of the company NATTUR and the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature.

The route to our winery is passable and pleasant, both by bike and by coach. We also have a very large parking space for all our guests. Also, the location of the winery is particularly favorable for excursions, as it can be combined with many places of special interest, from which we are very close. Some of them are the Archaeological Museum of Phaistos, the sculpture gallery in Venerato, Paliani, Gortyna, the Roman Tombs and the Minoan Presses in Agios Thomas, Matala, Zaros, but also many Byzantine Churches.

Our premises are open, welcoming and invite you to visit and get to know us. Conference facilities with a capacity of up to 60 people, including wine-tasting areas and attractive courtyard for all kinds of organized events, with an overall capacity of over 1,000 people. . In the central rooms, which have been designed as spaces of perfect elegance and art, we can sample together our passion, present our new products while at the same time discuss, evolve and educate ourselves.  In the courtyard spaces we come into close contact with nature and enjoy the natural gifts of this blessed place.
