For the first time in decades, the spirit of cycling came alive in Alexandroupoli through a route rich in history, culture, and natural beauty.

Starting from the city’s iconic landmark, the Lighthouse, the course extended from the coastal zone through the traditional settlements of Feres and historic Traianoupoli, reaching as far as Avantas, Kirki, and Avra. Hundreds of cyclists navigated breathtaking landscapes, bringing the concept of sports tourism to life.

At the same time, a children’s cycling tour was organized along the city’s waterfront, offering young cycling enthusiasts a safe, fun, and engaging introduction to the sport.

The event delivered unique experiences and genuine emotion, positioning Alexandroupoli firmly on the map of major cycling events.

The Gran Fondo Delta concluded with great success, marking a new milestone in the city’s cycling history—27 years after its last international race. Over 110 athletes from seven countries participated in two demanding routes (130km and 70km), riding through scenic landscapes supported by professional organization, flawless safety protocols, and a festive atmosphere.

As Mayor of Alexandroupoli, Mr. Giannis Zampoukis, stated: “What matters most is movement, the connection with the road, and the joy of participation. Even if just one new cycling enthusiast was born today, it brings us great joy. Competition comes later.”

The Gran Fondo Delta is a prestigious road race offering a remarkable cycling experience. It was held in Alexandroupoli, starting from the central Lighthouse Square, featuring 130km and 70km routes through striking natural terrain and picturesque villages.

The event was organized by Misc+ Sport Media and the Municipality of Alexandroupoli, under the approval and auspices of the Hellenic Cycling Federation (HCF) and in accordance with UCI regulations. It was included in the official 2025 race calendar of the HCF.
